Making Of
Project Start
At first you need a bike, of course. Should have a good engine with low milage if possible. Not bad if it has parts which you can use. Here: the 17” rear wheel. Started to strip down the bike and tested the new fork from a Suzuki GSF1250.
Stripping down
Stripping down the bike and testing the first rear shock. Too short …
Fuel tank, Part 1
Trying out a Suzuki GN250 fuel tank. Nope, that doesn’t really work…
Fuel tank, Part 2
Trying out a Honda CG125 fuel tank. Looks perfect! Building tank mounts.
Rear shock and new tyres
Ordered a custom made Wilbers rear shock. Nice part. 2 cm shorter than original.
At the same time the new front wheel arrived. Like the rear wheel it’s with a Behr rim. Assembled with a KTM950 LC8 hub (has mountings for two brake discs). Finally mounting Pirelli MT60 RS tyres.
Exhaust
Building the exhaust. Classic after market cafe racer can and a hand made header. Covering with heat wrap.
Oil cooler
Changing the position of the oil cooler – with a new holder and pipes from a Suzuki XF650.
Shortening the rear frame
Headlights, indicators, speedometer
Mounting headlights, indicators and speedometer. Indicators are not the final ones. Choosed a Koso D64 DL-03S multifunction meter.
Seat
Preparing seat. Using the front part of stock seat base. Cover will be made by an expert later.
Electrics
Organizing the cables…
Detail: mount for speed sensor
Making the mount for the speed sensor.
Nearly finished
Bike ist working. Mounting a MSR can for law compliance. First test rides.
Side covers
Making the side covers, using VIVAK©. It’s transparent and hard like acrylic and soft as bubble gum over 140°C, so you can form it easily.
Preparing for paintwork
And now: disassembling bike, sandblasting frame (sorry, no pictures), have it painted and reassembling everything afterwards.
New exhaust header
After the test drives the exhaust header tape was broken in the top of the header due to overheating. So i decided to have a new header made and polish it.
Finished!
Paintwork ist done, bike is reassembled. Finished!
